Avi to a unique wmv

well i did look through the forums already but i didnt see anything similar to the problem that i am having. to start off i use windows xp service pack 3. i am also using version 3.6 of the QMC. I have been trying to convert an avi file to my phillips go gear with no luck. it comes with a rhapsody that will do it, but it sucks and the audio isnt synced at all. when ever i try to do it with the QMC the file works fine, but when i xfer it to the player, it always says there is one or more parameter out of limits for the player. so this is what i have done. i got the tech info for the file that the rhapsody converts and i compare it to the one the QMC converts. but i have no idea how to make them the same. there doesnt seem to be enough options in the expert mode and i have no idea how to use the command prompt. if you just want to point me in the right direction of where to find out how to do it on my own, thats fine. i just have no idea where to look. also i have a question about the expert mode on the video options tab. there is a setting called "FFormat". what is that and what kind of value do i need to put in there? anyways on with the tech info. the first one is the rhapsody convert:

Thank you for your very complete post,

I had a look at it and will review it with Gilles ( DEV) sometimes tomorrow here is 4 in the morning,

We will as explained on our website prepare a few presets for getting you all started with profiles and use of expert mode as it may get very complicated .

In your case you will probably need to do a two pass encode and check the sync audio in the audio settings in expert mode.

I will make some tests tomorrow and also check with Gilles if we can help you.

As I said I did work on your problem and came up with these settings based on the information you provided us :Here is what I did :

1) Loaded input file to QMC
2) Expert Mode
3) Input these settings for video ( 2 pass mode activated)


4)Input these settings for audio ( audio sync activated)

You can try these settings and see if they solve your sync problem.

also here is the profile :

WMV With Audio Profiel 16:9 2 Channels Sync 2 Passes

Place it in the /profile folder (QMC directory)
C:\Program Files\QuickMediaConverter\Profil
Load it directly from expert mode . ( New QMC functionnality)
You can play with the settings from there it will be much easier .

well thank you for the quick response. i really was suprised. i tried what you told me. i loaded the profile and everything but it still didnt work. it played fine on the computer, but as soon as i went to put it on the SA5285(phillips go gear) it came up with the same error. i will post the tech info for the conversion. i do have a question though, what does the 2 pass encoding do? like, what situations would i use that instead of regular encodiing. also is there any more info you need? is there any settings that you would like me to play with? i have no problem fiddling with it, but i just dont have any idea what setting i would need to change. thanks again for the time you are putting in trying to answer my question.

I have noticed something I didn't see in the first place ,

Your software uses Wmv3 codec (proprietary MS ) to encode , and with a wmv not VC-1 format....

I do not know if what I did will work but it is worth a try I join the xml file to this post .

If it doesn't work a good idea would be to send a small file to us for testing over here.


To answer your question about two passes it encodes first audio the the video to ensure better quality output.

It would be better to use it on big files.

well i have some good news and bad. i messed with the settings and i actually got the file to load on the player with out any errors. but the video still didnt work when i played it. i think it has something to do with that wmv3 you mentioned. i dont really understand what you said about it though with the VC-1 and such. i really am a beginner with all this so i dont know what you mean by all that. is that something that the QMC doesnt support? i also added the file info for the convert that i got to work. i had to put the video bit rate to 250 and the audio bit rate 28000.

so if I understand correctly it loads but doesn't play the Video does it play the audio ?

At first glance the Bitrate parameter for wmv seems very low and may be the reason why the player doesn t play the video, wmv 3 is Microsoft codec so proprietary, but it doesn't necessarily mean your player would not be able to read previous versions as wmv2.

Try by increasing the video bitrate to about 1000 by progressive steps and lets see what happens...

well i tried increasing the bit rate but i only got to 290. i was trying to figure something out and the player came with a converter, but it has never worked. as soon as it starts an error comes up and i have to close it. but it has the settings to convert the file to so it will work on the player. it says the video output is an (video) mpeg-4 codec 320x240, 512kbps, 30fps, (Audio)mpeg layer-3, 128kbps, 48000hz. now i saw the mpeg 4 as a codec, but what would i use as an audio codec? i didnt really see a mpeg layer-3. thanks again for all the help so far

For audio you should probably use MP3 codec which is audio mpeg layer 3
