Change Aspect Ratio for AVI to DVD -solved

Postby davidaw » 15 May 2008, 15:55

I am new to dvd burning and conversion.

I have a vista OS and also use winXP when converting files.

My TVs are 4:3, but videos I want to convert are different aspect ratios (2.42, etc)

Images after converting are tall and skinny. How can I make the videos normal and not tall & skinny.

Thanks :)

Hello welcome and thank you for your post and your interest in our product.

could you send us the information of both input and output files please ? we will have a look at this subject. To do this just follow these steps

At first glance it seems you are confusing x and y sizes x being width and y being Height .

Also 2.42 means x/2.42=y
So if you want x=340 divide by 2.42 to get y the result should then be x=340 y =+/-140

We hope this is of some help and you understood the explanation ?
This feature will be available in simple mode in a few days in our Final Quick Media Converter release.
V3.5

Also you could use expert mode for now to try getting the correct aspect from there .
Have a nice day and good luck .

Hi. Sorry for not originally complying with posting standards. Below are the specs from one of the files.

In addition, when I copy, the voice runs ahead of the picture. I think it does get progressively worse through playing the converted file.

I have checked the original avi version: voice & picture are in sync throughout the whole film.

Hi, your problem comes from virtualdubMod demux or remux the video and audio.
When you try to convert the video with QuickMediaConverter, during the conversion the information on the shift time between de audio and video is lost and then you have a shift in audio and video synchro .
Why not try to convert your file with Qmc first .
For more informations on VirtualMod look on the forum : http://forums.3ivx.com/index.php?showtopic=86356

2) You can also do as follows if the file is not initially converted by you:

a) Extract the audio to an mp3 file (easily done in simple mode)

b) convert the video without audio (using expert mode convert with no audio by checking the box :don't encode audio)

c) use a video editor to assemble the two files

Sounds tedious but it should work as well .

Have nice a day good luck

OK. Thank you. Is it possible (or easier) to use vdubmod to correct?

Also, my videos are all (slightly) squeezed taller & skinnier. What is your recommendation to have video maintain their original dimensions?

Hello again ,

To modify the size of your video you may now do so in simple mode with QMC 3.5.7 new version .

For the other question maybe test it with a short clip to after installing new QMC ...

Have a nice day
