Expert Mode: downsizing transport stream from 1080p to 720p?

I see in expert mode, it looks feasible. Can anyone help me, I'm looking to take my backed up Blu Ray disk (already ripped to my drive) and I use TsRemux to take the movie m2ts file to convert it to a transport stream. I would then like QMC to downsize the outputted TS file to a 720p TS video. I would like to keep the Dolby Digital 5.1 too. Thanks in advance, I keep getting errors when I start the conversion so hopefully someone has a guide or can help.

Hello ,

We normally do not support Expert mode however we have a bit of time so we will try to help you.

We have not yet tried with a HD format here is a good opportunity

First try as below

1)Expert mode

2)Select the file and get the technical info
3)select video output format (mpeg video input format)
4)activate video options by clicking on the red dot ==> green
5)select output codec mpeg2 (same as input)
6) do not fill anything (all other boxes blank) besides x and y for your video aspect and make sure you keep the ratio 16/9 or 4/3 .
There is no need in this case to click on the Ratio check boxes either.
7)click on convert

I you leave audio on red it should use the original audio codec for converting.

Lets see if that works ...

If it doesn't you can fill bitrate and framerate according to oiriginal settings of your file .here is an example of a 4/3 settings in ts
If x and y are entered manually do not check ratio boxes.

BitRate/String : 15 Mbps ==> Bitrate
BitRate_Mode : CBR

Width/String : 720 pixel3 ==> x

Height/String : 576 pixel2 ==> y

AspectRatio/String : 4/3 ==>Ratio

In expert mode select audio codec ac3 for dolby digital 5.1 and let unchecked the box mono or stereo.
For the codec video select mpeg2 bitrate 2000 and x:720 y: 576 frame 25 and select 4:3 to force the good tv format.
Now , for information "to try " because we have not tested for the moment the hd video format (video codec's are not the same).

Do you want classic beta feedback? Like:

1. I can go to expert mode but not back.

2. Would it be possible to use novice mode to select a type of conversion and then if expert mode is selected to have the fine tuning fields filled in from the non-expert mode selections?

Sorry for the little delay in replying but over the last few days I was very busy as my wife was having a little baby girl

Thank you for your nice comments, we do apreciate and it does indeed encourage us to continue and makes it all worth it.

About your problem :

1) To come back to normal mode just click on the left (film icon) right by expert mode , this should bring you back to the standard easy mode.

2) For your second suggestion we discussed it with Gilles (Developper) and we came out to the conclusion that it could be done and in fact would also be very useful to all, so we will probably include this in a future update. Thank you for that suggestion as it makes sense.

The only thing is that you would still have to fine tune by yourself but it could make it a shorter process you still would need to know more than average to make sure the selections you make will be adequate.

We are also working on the possibility for to save your typical profiles according to your needs and your satisfaction.

At this stage after verification , ffmpeg does not yet support HD we will keep an eye on it and will include it as soon as available.
