WTV files with h.264 data

In New Zealand, Windows 7 Media Centre recorded TV, wtv files, contain h.264 data because of our digital HD tv system. They only play in Windows Media Centre and will not convert to other formats to make them generally useful. A notice
appears advising "file not compatible" when attempting to change the format. Windows Movie maker appears to convert these wtv files to wmv, but they then wont run on other players, or convert. Can you help?

The Tv HD files are generaly protected and cannot be convert.
